‘Abbeys and castles – Jervaulx, Richmond, Bolton – are all within a 10-mile radius of this 20th century pub, situated on a busy road in a small village on the eastern edge of the Dales.
There are some traditional elements here – the odd beam, a stone bar area, plenty of memorabilia – but the real attraction for visitors and walkers wearied by a hike in the surrounding countryside is the good choice of ales and locally renowned dishes, steaks being a speciality.
There’s a blackboard menu which holds some interest, or just enjoy the hearty cooking that makes the most of Yorkshire produce in the formal dining room, informal flag-floored bar dining area or the small, cosy bar.
